Sri Lanka’s insurgency that started in the year 1983 continued into 25 year war conflict between the Sri Lankan government and the opposing party LTTE, destroyed so many lives, changed the course of living of many Sri Lankan’s and left them with nothing but fear of losing their lives at some point. Luckily, the traumatic on-going war came to an end, settling the fear of Sri Lankan’s to some extent. But the painful memories of those who were victims of the war was not something that settled in the hearts of them quite yet. Vengeance and hatred has rooted in the hearts of those who were effected and in some case who weren’t leading it towards a post-war racial dilemma in this country.
Strategies of political or international parties leading to wars leaving the civilians in the middle to decide what’s right from wrong and to get along or to escape it is the underline of the whole scenario that applies to most of us in this society. The post war we are facing right now is just another scenario that’s similar that left most of us with conflicted and twisted feelings about each other, a dilemma that cannot be untangled if avoided to see the bitter truth behind it.

Our current society is inflated with people with irrational beliefs and a handful that see the truth as it is. This fact applies to many social aspects, and one of the major aspect that can be easily triggered is the differences in social and racial beliefs, and speaking about those differences publicly. Sri Lankan’s like any other citizen of another country use patriotism as a tool to convey their rational, irrational beliefs out in public, regardless of the latter infliction that causes amongst rest of the country’s population. Right for free speech is given as a ploy that could be used for goodness in this society rather than the bad. But unfortunately, it’s mostly been used to directly attack or differentiate opinions of rest of people in the society. Moreover, there are some people who uses this right as a weapon and create unnecessary theories that lead groups of other people join that, and turn that into a cult. Initiators of these kinds of groups are either businessmen, politicians or terrorists. These people are out there to get something from rest of us then create chaos and lead us to the destruction of peace amongst us all. Sometimes these imposed beliefs could seem realistic or you could be able to relate yourself to them, but it is only a smart scheme that’s used to trick us into think what they want us to think. For instance, if someone states that only a Sinhalese dissident can be a True Sri Lankan, and other minorities does not have true ownership over being called a ‘True Sri Lankan’and if that statement made you think the same- YOU PROBABLY NEED TO REVISE YOUR BELIEFS AND RETHINK ABOUT THE CREATION OF HUMANITY.
These kinds of keen social schemes are running in our society and sadly many people seem to accept them. Publicly speaking about a race and a culture being the greatest amongst all, yet failing every day to show what it really means to be a part of something great. Publicly speaking about how another race should go to extinction, and failing to see how important it is for all the humans to stay as one for coexistence of this world. Revise your actions and way of thinking about the difference of human race into something positive, rational and prospective. Our country and the whole world could seem to have filled with a lot of people with so many irrational beliefs and hatred for each other, but if you could change your belief into some better with more positivity, it can lead somewhere better someday.

It’s essential that you understand even though we are of different colours, raised with different racial, religious beliefs – Humans are one kind. Hatred, vengeance, religious and racial preferences are for those who aren’t ready to see reality and accept it. Are we all not able to see what’s right from wrong? If you have time to think about this, whom would you choose to be? We might need a miracle to forget what’s happened in the past, or to forget the social conflict that we still have in our society at the moment. But it is our responsibility to act accordingly to reduce these conflicts. Think logically, and act accordingly! To be continued…
