One of the most humble and down-to-earth, crazily talented individuals I’ve ever come across. Of Sri Lankan heritage, Melbourne based Julian Simonsz, 30, grew up in a very musical family and has had a passion for singing for as long as he can remember. Simonsz has a Bachelor in Audio Production and was performing in certain venues whilst building his YouTube following online, but, it was his stint on Season 3 of The Voice Australia in that catapulted his music profile.
Only a few days after saying ‘I do’, Julian Simonsz stunned all four judges at the Voice Australia 2014 with his amazing voice. Only minutes after the episode was aired, our Facebook feeds flooded with his blind audition video as it went viral and Sri Lankan’s all over the world fell in love with his voice and his story. “To have an overwhelming support from my country and to know that they’d have my back no matter what, meant the world to me”, Julian said. It wasn’t just his Facebook fans that shot up to over a 38,000 in just over a night, but the pride Sri Lankans all over the nation felt watching Julian’s audition grew indescribably every time we pressed the replay button on our computers.
It was ultimately Grammy winning mega producer Will.I.Am, Julian’s coach on The Voice, who described Julian’s voice throughout the show as “amazing” and “pristine” who saw him deliver four outstanding performances as he made it to the top 24, along the way being dubbed the “next Justin Timberlake” (Daily Mail Australia) in both print and social media.
His first single I do it for you has spent a good 14 weeks in the Yes 101 FM Home Grown Show, and having attended the Yes FM Home Grown Awards for which he received the coveted crown of Best Male Artist of the year.
Julian is currently promoting his large and upcoming show on the 27th of February, titles “Julian Simonsz – One Night Only”. Backed by for the first time in history, Showtown Entertainment and Ants Work together with OZO Colombo as the hospitality partner, this epic event featuring The Julian Simonsz Band is surely to satisfy Sri Lankan fans and their burning desire to see this well-loved artist at his best.
Having a Lankan on a show with a magnitude as great as that of The Voice Australia brought pride to our small nation. Julian is making a name for himself as that rare type of artist who is both phenomenal on stage and a pleasure to deal with, with the unconditional love and support from his wife and manager, Nelu Simonsz, impressing audiences and event organizers time and time again. Julian is proving why he is on the way to being the nation’s next household name. A Lankan by blood, who we are truly proud of.
