Let’s Taco Colombo rebranded to offer a wholesome Tex-Mex treat!
Mexican House, formerly known as Let’s Taco Colombo, uses fresh ingredients to produce renewed Mexican dishes like burritos, nachos, quesadillas and of course, tacos. Everything is made in-house with locally sourced ingredients to make the prices more affordable, without creating a dent in your pocket.
The ambience of the place was quite nice and serene, and we specifically loved the thematic painted walls, wall hangings, and also the shakers hung up, which definitely contributed to the Mexican theme they have going on. They have outdoor seating as well as indoor seating so you can take your pick and relax.
Green Lemonade – LKR 350
Refreshing as ever, this drink consisted of mint, lime, and soda and tasted exactly like a virgin mojito. It wasn’t too minty, or too sour. The elements were perfectly balanced out. This was a real thirst quencher and we highly recommend this drink.
Cheese Quesadilla – LKR 600
The quesadilla in itself, albeit a little salty, had a great texture and was nice and soft. You get two side items with this dish, the salsa dip, and a salad which consisted of chopped pineapple, onions, and tomatoes. The quesadillas were filled with tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and cheese and they were topped off with sour cream and homemade jalapenos. The ingredients complemented the soft quesadillas and tasted tangy due to the sour cream and tomatoes, but all in all we liked the dish when paired with the complimentary sides.
Grilled Chicken Dos Tacos – LKR 790
This main consisted of 2 tacos which were filled with cubes of grilled chicken, chopped tomatoes, onions, pineapple, coriander, cilantro, and kidney beans. We opted for the soft taco shell, and we were glad we did because the crunchiness of the kidney beans gave the dish that extra kick it needed. Being the only dish out of what we ordered which contained pineapple; the filling was sweet and sour, derived from the sour cream. The zesty taste which we were sceptical about however, did not overpower the dish. All in all, this dish was wholesome and worked great as comfort food because they were not stingy with the chicken!
Chicken Mini Burrito – LKR 675
Mexican House get their burritos right! We loved this dish and it was the winner of the meal. Containing shredded seasoned chicken, cooked tempered rice, and kidney beans, this burrito was so filling so do not let the name of the dish put you off! The mini burrito is enough to fill you up guys and it was loaded with their usual chopped veggies, inhouse-made jalapenos and dollops and dollops of super gooey cheese. This is the dish for those of you who love their food with extra cheese; we could barely see the burrito! YUM.
Grilled Beef Mini Tacos – LKR 600
Here, we wished we opted for the hard taco shell because the soft taco shell simply did not do justice to the chilli beef filling. A hard taco shell, we believe would have given this dish that crunch it craved. Moreover, the soft shells used here, unlike the ones used in our Grilled Chicken Tacos had a powdery base which we weren’t too happy with. However, this was easy to overlook considering the very well marinated beef, chopped tomatoes and onions, and the generous sprinkle of coriander.
We were so full at the end of the meal that we simply did not have room for dessert but a little birdie told us that their Churro Cup at LKR 550 is their fast moving dessert so be sure to try that out too!
Also, they were understaffed on the day we visited so our food took quite some time to arrive but it was understandable. However, the staff was friendly and well versed with the menu so our ordering process was a breeze!
