Menu

Thai cuisine is one that many of us are quite fond of and lucky for us, Sri Lanka definitely is not running short of places that serve up these delectable meals. Krua Thai is the latest addition to this string of restaurants. It isn’t a fancy place, but is rather one that befits the street food it serves. Don’t get me wrong; it’s neat and clean, but like a typical street food place, it is small and low-key.

We’ve heard plenty of Dao and her dream of whipping up some good food, and sure enough we loved the dishes that were brought to our table. The service was quite speedy, thankfully!

Appetizers

Tom Yum Gai- Rs. 420

The Tom Yum looked amazingly appetizing and was served to us piping hot! From the aroma that wafted from the bowl, to the portion size (which was actually quite sufficient for three of us), this starter was top notch. Since I’m not one with a very strong threshold for spice, I was relieved that this Tom Yum wasn’t eye wateringly hot. It had just the right amount of spice, was very flavourful, and had the tangy lime taste that accompanies the average Tom Yum. All in all, it was a great dish to start with!

Thai Kai Ping- Rs. 675

It was a small, yet adequate portion of fried chicken on skewers. The Kai Ping tasted very flavourful, but it was the accompanying sauce that brought all the spice to it. They were quite oily, though.

Deep Fried Wontons (Pork)- Rs. 550

This portion of four wontons was super oily. They brought out a rich lemongrass flavour and the filling tasted really good. The sweet chili sauce that came with it combined amazingly well with the wontons. However, it would have been better if there was a lot more filling.

Mains

Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken- Rs. 650

This dish was my absolute favourite! It was delicious, and packed with so much flavour. One thing I loved was the fact that they were so generous with the amount of chicken and crushed peanuts that came with this. As a result of this, each bite came with a great serving of peanuts.

Spicy Fried Rice- Rs. 600

If you’re a fan of spicy food, the Spicy Fried Rice is your ideal choice! We opted to go with a medium spice level, but even then I found it to be quite spicy. It was filled with spices and flavour and again, had a very generous serving of meat with it as well. Nonetheless, I did feel that it brought out a very strong fish oil taste, which personally didn’t bother me that much, but would not be the greatest taste for people who aren’t exactly fans of seafood.

PS- Note to all spice lovers; the chilli paste at Dao Krua Thai is extremely hot and will probably leave you in tears. Enjoy!
