Occasionally, we suffer from various mouth and teeth related issues and these problems include plaque, discolored teeth, cavities and of course, bad breath. Nevertheless, clove oil and fluoride are known to assist in battling these issues.

We all know that cavities tend to be extremely annoying and are definitely not pretty to look at. Nowadays, it is common that children suffer from cavities mainly due to the fact that they consume copious amounts of sugar. Ignoring tooth decay is definitely not advisable as it will affect you as a youth as well as when you are older.

What causes Cavities?

Cavities occur as a result of tooth decay and this happens over time. However, it is also in your hands to control how fast you let tooth decay affect your teeth.

Tooth decay is said to begin with the formation of plaque. Plaque is a somewhat glue-like substance that builds up on your teeth and contains a very large number of bacteria. Such bacteria eventually lead to tooth decay and gum disease if they are not removed regularly through brushing and flossing.

Thereafter, the acids in plaque eliminate minerals in your tooth’s outer enamel. This leads to the development of miniscule holes in the enamel and this is known to be the first stage of cavities. Ultimately, bacteria and acid fight through the layers in your teeth and reach softer layers that are less resistant to acid.

While this decay develops, the bacteria and acid continue to penetrate your teeth, eventually, arriving at your pulp-like inner tooth material which consists of nerves and blood vessels. The pulp swells as the bacteria irritates it and severe toothaches, sensitivity and pains while biting tend to make an appearance.

Factors that contribute to tooth decay include lack of minerals in the diet, lack of fat soluble vitamins (vitamins A, D, E and K), over consumption of phytic acid-rich foods and high consumption of processed sugar,

Healing and Fighting Cavities

  • Fluoride

Fluoride is a naturally established element that prevents tooth decay when topically applied to teeth or even when systematically ingested and fluoride is believed to possess cavity preventing characteristics.  It reduces the dissolvability of enamel in acid and may directly influence getting rid of dental plaque. This in turn lessens the capability of acid production of plaque organisms. Moreover, fluoride enhances the remineralization of enamel in the cavity affected areas in your teeth. Thereby, fluoride can largely help when it comes to battling cavities.

  • Clove Oil

Clove oil is a substance that tends to be profusely featured in ayurvedic practices and clove is said to be a primary component of in healing oral conditions. It contains essential minerals as well as vitamins, together with the anti microbial and anti septic properties which makes it perfect for preventing cavities and tooth decay.

Additionally, clove oil contains an active ingredient called eugenol and is known to fight bacteria. Eugenol is also proven to be a powerful fat-soluble antioxidant which would help heal dental corrosion.

Choosing the Right Toothpaste

When selecting a suitable toothpaste, there are several factors that affect your decision.

Primarily, you need to weigh out your dental issues. When you figure out what problems you need to battle, scope out the ingredients that will help you heal your damaged teeth.

In terms of fighting cavities, keep an eye out for toothpastes that include fluoride and clove oil. Since fluoride is available in a majority of toothpastes, searching for this ingredient may not prove to be a difficult task.

Clove oil is a component obtainable in toothpastes that use natural ingredients. Not many gel toothpastes have this ingredient, so keep an eye out.

If you are not too fond of the taste or likes of clove, go for a toothpaste that contains an added flavor such as mint. This will leave your mouth fresh and with minty fresh breath.
