2016 May 2

If you’re deciding on finally getting that one tattoo you’ve always wanted but now you’re confused with what to get in case you get something you think you wouldn’t like later on in life and then assume that you’ll regret it because you wished you looked into other option before you got something ‘permanent’ done on your body, we’ve got that confusion sorted. Before you figure out what to get, you need to decide where to get inked, and this article is going to help you with that.

Tattoos are intricate drawings we take with us forever, for most Sri Lankans, it becomes our little secret. If it’s the first time you’re getting  tattoo, then I’m sure you’re looking for something so intricately drawn and so small so that you’re parents aren’t going to be as mad about it.

Small, intricate tattoos are so in trend right now. Tattoo trends have evolved greatly from lions and dragons to mandala designs and from sugar plum fairies to infinities and dream catchers. This makes it all the more scarier, always do your research before you get a tattoo, you wouldn’t want one that’s outdated!

This is why we’ve got you a solution. You don’t have to worry about choosing something you’d want to get out of the 1000+ designs on the internet. We’ve got a list of 5 different types of tattoos that are so in style this year and what they mean.

  1. Arrow

This is one of the mostly commonly inked tattoos of all time. A simple arrow makes a great difference. As tumblr and magical as it looks, Arrow tats are also a great option to go with if you’re looking for a tattoo that’s subtle and not so big. A small arrow tattoo behind the ear would be perfect.

I know most of us catch ourselves wondering what the arrow tattoo really means every time we see someone rock it. I did a bit of digging up, and apparently, arrows are a Native American symbol, but this is the cool part, its meanings change according to how you place the arrow.

If arrows are crossed, they mean friendship. A bundle of arrows signify strength in numbers. An arrow through a diamond symbol represent courage for one to move forward. It’s a movement of forward direction.

  1. Maori

Maori tattoos are as cool as tattoos can get. If you’re wondering what they are, they are so huge tribal designs that most men have on the side of their chests. Have you wondered what they really mean other than being really sketchy and cool?

The Maori are indigenous people that originated in New Zealand. They refer to their indigenous body art as moko now commonly referred to as Maori tattooing.  This form of body art was brought to the Maori from Polynesia and is considered highly sacred.

So the next time you find yourself thinking it’s some really tacky tribal art, well, now you know it has rich history and culture behind it.

  1. Infinity Symbols

Infinity symbols tattoos are by far another most common among young girls. For some reason, an infinity symbols seems like our calling, its appeals to both spirituality and our inner energy.

An infinity means forever. Most couples get infinity tattoos to signify limitless love. Best friends get it to remind each other that friendship is greater than anything that’ll come between then.

Infinity tattoos signify no limitations and never ending possibilities. It signifies there being no boundaries. This symbol represents the universe and all of its possibilities. It represents parallel universes and realities. They might be simple, but they look fantastic as tattoos. Most make changes to the original infinity by coupling it up with feathers or flying birds, or in some cases beautifully written phrases.

  1. Illegibly written quotes or Roman Numerals

Quotes written in sloppy writing look absolutely amazing. It’s got the sense of ambiguity and subtlety to your tattoo. Words change your perspective and inspire you to do amazing things. Nothing is more moving than a perfect quote that encapsulates a sentiment that means something special to you.

Roman Numerals are also great ways to mark a most memorable date. Dates that have memories entwined in them that by getting it on your body, you make a mark forever that reminds you of the day. Everyone has a number, date or time that they consider meaningful, whether it’s a wedding anniversary, a loved one’s birthday or a lucky number. Why not celebrate it with a sleek and timeless Roman numeral tattoo? It’s also easy to incorporate an infinity symbol or an arrow ink with this style, in case now you want to get all three.

  1. Semicolon

If you’ve noticed a semicolon tattoo and wondered what it was, then you aren’t the only one.

Semi colon tattoos are not just a passing trend, they have wide meaning incorporated in it. The semi colon tattoos isn’t just a symbol of grammar. They describe themselves as a “movement dedicated to presenting hope and love to those who are struggling with depression suicide, addiction and self-injury.”

But why a semicolon?

A semicolon is used when an author could have chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life.
