Last minute gift hunting is stressful. But if you’re planning on pretending like you completely forgot that tomorrow’s the 14th, wrong move mister. Valentines is always a huge deal for a girl and this is your time to claim the “BEST BOYFRIEND/HUSBAND” title. Vouchers are a no-go for most women. No matter how expensive the voucher you give her, she’s always going to assume that you didn’t out enough thought into what you wanted to get her and that, is not a smart move either. Here’s a list of cliché quick, easy and affordable gift ideas you can surprise her with tomorrow. Trust me, they are guaranteed to put you in the ‘good’ list. Valentine’s Day comes just once a year, try to make an effort to surprise her with a thoughtful and romantic gesture.
- A Dozen Roses for Milady
You can never go wrong with a bouquet of flowers and some chocolates. Flowers are truly, the way to a girl’s heart. The chocolates, are the cherry on top. Keep a big bouquet of roses right beside her pillow and surprise her with an “I Love You” as soon as she wakes up in the morning. Why Rose and not any other type of flower? In addition to all the literature and poetry associated with the flower, Roses scream out romance and love. A bouquet of about a dozen roses are sure to make her day the best.
Tip: If you don’t think you’d have enough time to pick the flowers up tonight (if you want to surprise her tomorrow morning) then you can maybe get Kapruka to deliver them to you (they have an amazing collection just in time for tomorrow http://www.kapruka.com/shops/flowershop/floristDepartments.jsp?subcat=bestSeller) . Check Shiro Hana too, (http://www.shirohanaflowers.com/store/item/default.aspx?pNumber=2&qOccasion=39) their flowers are fresh, beautiful and very artistic!
- Bling + Elegance
I’m sure she’d rather have diamonds around her neck than flower in her hair. Women are famous for window shopping. Specifically when it comes to expensive, fine jewellery. Remember the time you passed a Swarna Mahal at Majestic City and she told you how she’s always wanted a Ruby ring? Well, now’s your turn to be Secret Santa. Get her something you’ve seen her gawk at, or something she’s told you about over and over again. If you get the gift right, she’s in for a shock. Go for jewellery that’s minimalist but elegant. A pair of intricately designed earrings or a simple looking pearl pendant would do.
Tip: There’s a lot of V-day promos in Jewellery stores all around Colombo (Raja Jewellers, Mallika Hemachandra, Swarna Mahal, Bullions Exchange, Colombo Jewellery Stores…). If you want to opt for something a little less expensive then maybe you can check out Stone and String, Chamathka, or even the Swarovski store at Crescat. Look out for credit card promos while you’re at it!
- A fragrant Valentine’s
As per our sequel article, The Ultimate Valentine’s Gift Guide for Him, even for your lady, a perfume is on the top of our list. Surprise her with her favourite fragrance. Just a heads up, women usually like a fruity fragrance or a floral one. If she’s one to go for fruity, then getting her a floral one isn’t much of a smart move. A woman and her perfume are inseparables. Getting her the right one is an absolute must.
Tip: Visit the Exclusive Lines online store (https://exclusivelines.lk/index.php) or the Parfumerie store that Softlogic runs (http://www.mysoftlogic.lk/Perfumes_Womens-3-8-51-51.html) to help you get an idea of the pricing and what they have to offer, before you make your choice. Talk to the sales ladies at the store and ask them what they think smells best, this will help you for sure, given the huge variety of fragrances they have in store that’s bound to drive you insane!
- Satisfy the shopaholic in her
A woman who’s a shopaholic will always be grateful for the bags, shoes and accessories you get her. What better way to make her happy this Valentine’s than get her, her something from her favourite brands available in the country. Given the few international brands we have, if you’re looking for something like a dress or an elegant top, you can check out Mango, they have a beautiful range of silky and dressing items that’s bound to add glamour to her wardrobe! (Shop now at http://shop.mango.com/home.faces?state=she_669_IN).
On the other hand, if your girlfriend/wife is the shoes & bags type, then a treat from somewhere like Charles and Keith will be spot on! In case you need to take a look at what you’re going to go for, whether it’s a bowling back, boots or a simple clutch, its best you go through their website (http://www.charleskeith.com/lk/new) , they usually update is as and when their new line of bags and shoes are launched. (But however, I don’t suggest you shop online, because if you do, you’d have to pay extra shipping charges and you won’t be able to get what you want by tomorrow, it’s cheaper and faster to walk into their store down Galle Road or at the Arcade Independence Square).
If you want to get her something she’ll probably wear on her every day, then you can opt for a watch. You can probably check out the International Watches stores around Colombo, or even visit the online pages of Softlogic (http://www.mysoftlogic.lk/Watches_Womens_Watches-3-6-20-20.html) or W.A.De Silva & Co. (https://www.wadesilva.com/) to find something your man would like. The latter however, don’t offer a wide collection in their e-store as does the former. I’m only suggesting that you go through the pages in these sites to get an idea on the pricing and make of the watch you want to buy for your loved one.
Tip: You have to be very specific about what you want to get her. If it’s a pair of shoes, then you need to know her shoe size, having to go there for the second time to change the shoes are a bit of an embarrassment!
- Take her out on a fancy date
So many hotels in Colombo have an amazing line-up of V-day treats just for you and your loved one! Check out our article on the Top Few places in Colombo to take your lady, Quick, hurry up and make your reservations now!
