What we had
Their rolled ice cream isn’t the only instagrammable thing!
Tucked away in the latest addition to Colombo’s shopping hubs, Frosty Roll is a brand new store that serves up some amazing rolled ice cream. Whether it be fruity rolled ice creams or chocolatey ones that you’re craving, they’ve got it all! Although they don’t have the ‘make-your-own-rolled-ice-cream’ option, their menu is quite extensive which definitely makes up for it.
We didn’t have to wait long to dig in since they served up the ice cream in 10 minutes. So while we waited for our beat-the-heat treats, we basked in their amazing décor. The ambience of the space had us in awe. It’s a little shop with glass walls and ceiling, amply decorated with rustic bulbs and hanging candle holders. One thing we absolutely loved was the abundance of artsy posters. A shot of these would make your Instagram feed a lot better!
Rolled Ice Creams
Choco Blast- Rs. 450
This was a concoction of Oreos, Nutella and chocolate milk, topped with whipped cream, crushed oreos, Koko Krunch, a generous drizzle of Hershey’s chocolate syrup and finally, adorned with two chocolate wafer sticks. Sounds like a real mouthful, doesn’t it? It was.
We weren’t sure if the rolls were a bit too hard, or if the plastic spoons were way too fragile, but attempting to take a spoonful proved to be a bit challenging as soon as we got the ice cream. Having said that, let’s get down to how it tasted.
Although named Choco Blast, it didn’t quite live up to the name. It was very milky and sweet, and the taste of chocolate wasn’t as rich as we’d have liked it to be. Though the other chocolatey elements of the ice cream did pull together, it still lacked a certain oomph quality to it.
Electric Shock- Rs. 430
Out of everything we indulged in, this was ranked our favourite. This was a mixture of black currant jam, black currant syrup and passion fruit syrup. On top was a dollop of whipped cream, a lavish serving of passion fruit and a slice of pineapple.
If you’re not a lover of all things fruity, then this probably isn’t the dessert for you. However, for the mega-fans of fruity treats, you’d always come back for more! The fruits included brought out a certain sweet, acidy flavor to it, but it was just right. The passion fruit on top made each bite of the ice cream perfection.
Double Delight- Rs. 450
Before reading the descriptive menu, we thought this was probably a mix of vanilla and chocolate. But to our surprise, this delight was a fruitful mix of strawberry and mango, with strawberry jam and mango pulp. Garnished with cubes of ripe mango, slices of strawberries and a squeeze of whipped cream, this combo screamed of sweetness. I am not really a fan of the taste of very ripe mangos, hence, this didn’t really work all too well for my palate. The ice cream on its own, however, was a delight.
Brownie Break- Rs. 420
When we saw this on the menu, we went nuts, because brownies and ice cream could never go wrong. This rolled ice cream was made with fudge sauce, milk, chocolate chips and of course, brownies. The toppings that came along with this one were whipped cream, a few small slices of brownies, a marshmallow and Hershey’s chocolate syrup.
Again, like in the case of the Choco Blast, it wasn’t as rich as we wanted it to be, so it was kind of a letdown. It tasted somewhat of a mix of milk and crumbled brownies, which didn’t really thrill our taste buds.
Vanilla Peach- Rs. 420
This was quite the peachy treat indeed! Their menu described this rolled ice cream as milk, peaches and peach syrup fried together. Not really sure how that quite worked out, but it did grab our interest. It was topped with their ever-present whipped cream, a few peach slices and a nice plump cherry on top.
The bits of peach mixed into the ice cream were gladly welcomed with each bite. Like most of the combos we had, this one too was very sweet. Other than that, there wasn’t anything much that added to the ice cream.
All in all, we really enjoyed our time at Frosty Roll. Have you been? Let us know what you think!
Tip: Try their fruity ice creams! You’ll be in for a real treat 🙂
