We’re spoilt for choice!

The Food station is like a mini cafeteria with plastic tables and chairs, consisting of 7 food stalls surrounding them. Keep in mind that the opening times differ from each stall so some of them might not be functioning if you were to drop by. Considering this country’s heat, the 3 ceiling fans did no justice but there are drinks and snow cones to relieve you of the rising temperatures. All in all, we found the place to be alright if it weren’t for the unbearable heat.

Snow Monkey

Snow Monkey took the market by storm when it first introduced itself since they specialise in flavoured snow cones. Since we were dying from the heat, we decided to get two snow cones to cool down.

Mixed Madness – Small (Rs.150)

This cup of crushed ice came with many flavours incorporated with it (i.e. Passion fruit, Nelli) but all we tasted was the Passionfruit. Bear in mind that these cups of crushed ice are incredibly sweet so don’t try them out if you don’t have a sweet tooth. I wasn’t a fan of the aftertaste this option left us with and although 150 bucks, it wasn’t worth the money.

Bubblegum – Small (Rs.150)

This snow cone gave off a taste that completely overthrew its name. We didn’t get any bubblegum flavour since the black current just overpowered every other flavour in the cup, and in all honesty, if you want a cup full of diabetes, get this option.

Village Kitchen

We noticed that The Food Station was a hub for nearby office workers and college students to drop by during lunch hours, so we decided to try out some local rice and curry. The Village Kitchen consisted of clay pots that held their curries so we were excited to see what they tasted like.

Chicken Rice & Curry (Rs.180)

Presentation wise, meh. The plating did not look appetising at all. There was a larger portion of rice than curries on the plate, which was a little disappointing. Along with the rice came small servings of beans, dhal, amberalla, ala thel and two pieces of chicken in the chicken curry. The rice wasn’t cooked well and the curries tasted quite mediocre. You’d probably want to take up on your amma’s offer of a packed lunch parcel the next time you make your way to college/work.

Peeko

Peeko didn’t have an extensive range of items on their menu, so we decided to go ahead with their two pasta options.

Pasta Cheese – Medium (Rs.180)

On first look, this dish looked like it was barely put together and that you could’ve probably done a better job at home. However, once we dug in, we were blown away! Topped off with shavings of cheese, diced bell pepper and a side of tomato sauce, this pasta was so yummy! It was cooked well and the mild spiciness from the bell peppers just added more flavour!

Pasta Chicken – Medium (Rs.180)

Just like the previous dish, the presentation on this was also not as great. Also with bell peppers and tomato sauce, the pasta was heavily infused with incredibly flavorsome chicken! Peeko was very generous with their meat All in all, we thought we were served a quite reasonable quantity with great taste for a mere 180 bucks.

Waffle Inc. (3pm onwards)

The bummer about this stall is that it only opens after 3, so if you’re craving waffles for breakfast.. have breakfast at 3pm. It’s worth the wait because we absolutely loved what we were served!

Grilled Chicken Surprise (Rs.300)

Where do I even start! The waffle was incredibly fresh and fluffy since Waffle Inc. makes their waffles right on the spot! The batter used was so good and the toppings were even better! Just like Peeko, Waffle inc. was also very generous with the amount of chicken that they serve. The chicken was mixed with pieces of capsicum and onions, topped off with tomato ketchup and mayo. Might I add that for Rs.300, the single waffle you get is incredibly filling! The meat was so moist and seasoned well, that we didn’t mind waiting till 3pm for these scrumptious delights!

Strawberry Delight (Rs.300)

After our savoury option, we decided to go for something sweet. Who goes to a waffle outlet without trying out strawberry waffles, yeah? Back again with the big fluffy waffle, this was topped off with two scoops of vanilla ice cream, slices of strawberry and strawberry syrup. This was absolutely heavenly (and equally stuffing)! The waffle was slightly soaked with the strawberry syrup and the strawberries gave a tangy taste that cut through the sweetness of the syrup and ice cream. We were incredibly impressed with both our options since they were both under Rs.500.

Meringue

Waffle Inc. wasn’t the only stall that offered dessert options, so we decided to try out Meringue’s classics

Iced Cappuccino (Rs.250)

WATER! We were served water. At least that’s what I thought initially because we barely tasted the caffeine in the cappuccino and it contained no sugar whatsoever. Later on the staff behind the counter brings a little cup of sugar syrup for the cappuccino which was quite puzzling because sugar syrup doesn’t mix well in cold drinks. We suggested they do something about it so hopefully, it will be different when you walk in

Chocolate Milkshake (Rs.230)

This drink was incredibly thick and had a large percentage of condensed milk. However, after our experience with the previous option, we preferred this since it had SOME flavour to it.

Chocolate Ganache (Rs.230)

Recommended by Meringue, this was a slice of incredibly thick and creamy chocolate cake. There was not much presentation, but it tasted heavenly! The only downer about this cake is that it was probably on display for some time since the edges of the cake were hard and dry, but as always, it’s the inside that matters.

Overall, we could only try out 5 out of 7 stalls since the rest weren’t open when we stepped in. The concept behind the food station is quite innovative and we couldn’t complain since they just opened up. Let us know how your experience went!

Tip: Try Peeko and Waffle Inc.!
