Kerrwh – Asia’s First NFT Art Gallery Launches in Sri Lanka!

2021 Jun 14

Kerrwh is Asia’s First NFT gallery; a combination of fine art and blockchain technology. The gallery was launched in Sri Lanka with the aim of carving out a niche in the emerging industry of digital art for Asian artists in the global NFT industry.

Non Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are records maintained on a digital ledger based on blockchain technology which certifies the authenticity of digital assets in a way that cannot be tampered or altered. NFT technology is widely touted globally to be the next big medium for the art industry.

Led by a founding team composed of interdisciplinary creative Dilanjan Seneviratne and technocrat turned real-estate executive Lekhya Ratnayake, Kerrwh is looking to merge technology with the deep heritage of artistry ubiquitous in Sri Lanka and the Asian region.

“We are highly excited by the opportunities that are opening up to Asians and Sri Lankans in the booming blockchain industry. NFT is arguably the most promising application of blockchain tech for us considering how closely ingrained art is to our culture. With Kerrwh, we are confident of our ability to export art from this region and technologically position that art in the global NFT industry. We are first movers in this industry not only in Sri Lanka but also in the Asian region and we are working hard to capitalize on this advantage,” commented Lekhya Ratnayake, Co-Founder of Kerrwh and Executive Director of the Trillium Property Management.

Kerrwh’s maiden collection was launched recently titled NeonAF and was listed on the global NFT exchange – OpenSea. OpenSea is a leading global exchange with over 647,000 listed collections and 22 million NFT assets. To date, OpenSea has generated over $518 million in sales volumes.

The opportunity presented by OpenSea listing Kerrwh’s collection is the exposure of local and regional art to the global digital art collection industry and over 120,000 registered buyers.

“We are seeing this as an amazing opportunity for Asian artists to participate in the global art industry where the purchasing power is infinitely higher and the appetite for alternative genres, which will help expand the local industries and also accommodate artists with inclinations towards more experimental forms of art,” commented Dilanjan Seneviratne, Co-Founder of Kerrwh and Executive Director of Theewra Worldwide.

In the future term, Kerrwh looks to carve out its niche for Asian artistry in the global NFT market which recorded over $2 Billion in sales in the first quarter of 2021.
