‘Before The Flood’ Popped A Bubble Of Obliviousness

Leo DiCaprio has been the bud of many jokes including his extremely late Oscar award win, a jovial image of him walking (which has appeared in countless memes) and of course, Leo’s obsession with climate change, global warming and environmental awareness.

‘Before The Flood’ is a National Geographic Channel documentary about climate change, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Big surprise there. But we decided to take a minute, actually sit our butts down and watch this film. By the end of it, I was stunned and personally terrified.

Quoting Business Insider, UK, “Before the Flood” is so powerful because it presents climate change as it a really is: a global threat that links together people separated by class and geography.”

Even President Obama stated in the documentary that The Pentagon has said that this problem is a “national security issue” and not merely the environment’s problem.

As Sri Lankans, what we need to fear is that as a small country whose contribution to global warming is drastically less than larger nations of the world, we and many other smaller countries will be among the first to experience the catastrophes of this deadly problem.
